August 2026
More pictures of bees and small things! This is my favorite month to take pictures of bees - some of my favorite flowers (such as golden rod) bloom during August.
Boneset
Boneset is one of my favorite flowers of all time (the flower featured in the above and right photos). It is closely related to Joe-Pye weed and lives in the same types of places generally - I see it the most next to streams, a few feet away from the banks, but in other places too. It has a pleasant fragrance, one of the stronger fragrances compared to many other native flowers. And it isn’t just my favorite. Native pollinators absolutely love boneset, so while the honey bee is going at it with the purple loosestrife (an invasive in love with another invasive!) next door, the native pollinators get to enjoy the boneset.
Miniature Worlds
Moss and lichen summon images of an alien landscape from the perspective of the little creatures that live amongst them. But I’m pretty sure that Honey I Shrunk The Kids has cured me of any desire to really be so small.
